Censorship!

Well…here goes!

The first time I know about this term called censorship when I was 10 and friends were talking about how they heard this ‘-toot’ sound on TV in the middle of a movie/drama.

For those who were ignorant ( yours truly, at that point in time), we thought it was something sinister… I’ve no idea why I thought it was evil, probably I was still traumatised after watching a video off SFOGS of some ghost- BUT, i shall not digress!

Then I started on a valiant journey of trying to catch the ‘-toot’ sound on TV. After not 1, 2 but 3 days later did I hear a slew of “-toot” sound either on MTV or some American movie which I can’t remember.

- Back in school, a sudden influx of students were f-ing their way off, proudly brandishing their middle finger.

And now, in the MTV era, I started to question the idea of censorship.

Why is Cookie Monster munching on cookies considered ‘unacceptable’ while variety shows like Dudesons in America, *coughJERSEYcoughSHORE* and even Hard Times of RJ Berger allowed to air on TV??

Children mouthing away expletives is no longer shocking in our society now, and the record age of young mothers are getting lower and lower, etc etc.

I wonder what would happen to the future generation with the TV shows getting more and more….I’ll leave it to you to fill in..

However, there are plenty of great movies with great reviews but yet, they fall into the category M18 or R21, which means only a smaller group of audience would be able to watch it, thus the potential of the movie buried under.

Then again, we’re living in the Digital Age and people can easily download a movie with a click on the net and this is something that Censorship cannot reach out…

Personally, I feel that placing age restrictions is not that effective as people of the same age alone can have different levels of maturity.

I myself watched Kill Bill when I was around 11 but I didn’t go around doing what Uma Thurman did, except that the scene where she crushed an enemy’s eye really got stucked in my mind till now.

Point is, it’s really down to the individual and self-discipline he/she has after watching a movie that is rated so it is difficult or maybe even unfair to have to put into place censorship in terms of age.

Therefore, censorship is effective when it benefits us- eg. not letting children or people with low maturity watch shows that might have an adverse effect on them.

But what separates Art (nudity) and excessive sensuality (talking more about pornography here)? The answers that we get from this question would be very opinionated and mixed, so does Censorship really help draw the line between this 2 issues?

Once upon a time, there was a girl who could do anything in the world she wanted. All she had to do was choose something and focus. So one day she sat down in front of a blank canvas and began to paint. Every stroke was more perfect than the next, slowly and gracefully…

Howdy!

Coming back to tumblr again just gives that airy feeling of a gust of wind through your hair~

oh yeah!
